I specialize in contemporary abstract painting as well as hyper-realistic style drawings. They are very different and opposing endeavours! I enjoy doing both forms of art, they seem to fulfill different parts of my love of creating something from nothing, always an amazing thing.
I live in Melbourne, Australia. I regularly exhibit in group exhibitions, galleries and shows and am a member of the Hawthorn Art Society and Melbourne and Victorian Artists’ Collective (MAVA).
I use acrylic and mixed media in my paintings, combining vibrant colours, lots of layers, and expressive marks. I try to capture a sense of light, movement, and dynamic energy. I am not aiming to project any objective meaning, I’m just telling an emotional story, really, one that I hope the viewer will share with me.
In my drawings, I do large forms of hyper-realistic portraits using graphite, charcoal and sometimes ink. I love the discipline and detail required for working in stark and limited colours. I try to convey meaning from black and white but also from many layers of grey, and from how light creates shadows and soft tones. It is a joy for me in the way the subject comes out of the paper to greet me as I draw.
